| COGNITIVE BEHAVIOURAL THERAPY
Is used frequently by the NHS and is more focused than Person Centred therapy. CBT can help you to change how you think ("Cognitive") and what you do ("Behaviour)". These changes can help you to feel better. Unlike some of the other talking therapies, it focuses on the "here and now" problems and difficulties. Instead of focussing on the causes of your distress or symptoms in the past, it looks for ways to improve your state of mind now.
Changing from negative, destructive thought patterns to positive, focused thoughts. Think of it as a teacher / Student relationship, it is more goal orientated and involves constant monitoring and assessment. You will leave with knowledge and skills to apply in other areas of your life. As an integrative therapist coming from a Person Centred foundation I occasionally use CBT within the therapy or as a stand alone therapy, this would be discussed in the initial session, based on your needs at that time or in reviews throughout therapy.
A SELECTION OF ISSUES WHERE CBT WOULD BE BENEFICIAL:
Anxiety ~ OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Behaviour) ~ Phobias ~ Panic ~ Relaxation ~ PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) ~ Depression ~ Eating Disorders ~ Pain management ~ Sleep disorders ~ Physical relaxation techniques…. |
